The 2023 show season, excitingly kicked off once again in New York City. Filled with anticipation and wonder at what this year's catwalk looks will bring to our screens and eventually to our closets. The vibe was generally fun and fantastical, thanks to looks from Carolina Herrera, LaQuan Smith and Rodarte along with dashes of modern Americana from Coach, Tory Burch and Michael Kors. But, it was generally a scaled back Fashion Week with lots of major fashion players choosing for various reasons to opt-out including, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger and Tom Ford - unimaginable a mere few years ago but very obvious, to me at least, this season. Could it be a combination of current economic factors at play or is the nature of the 'Fashion Show', that has dominated for almost a century, in possible peril? A very big and philosophical question, that has no easy answer, so I will stick to my top 5 takeaways from NYFW Fall 2023.
Top 5 trends
Metallics- not only for clothing but shoes and accessories are this season shining in silver and gold.

The Leather Look - this includes outerwear like the classic trench to actual wearable pieces in buttery brown hues. Divine!

High Slits and Fringing- adorning dresses in various collections as well as bags and accessories. Definitely a nod to the nineties but in a fresh and updated way by working with proportions.

Earthy Tones- it is natural to reflect the colours of nature in Fall collections, however these tones pack an extra punch and will inject wonderful colour to any wardrobe. A trend that is easily replicated with lasting effect.

Layering- not a trend as much as a Fall must, nevertheless when done cleverly it can elevate an outfit from ordinary to delightful.
